Mona Baptiste featured on the radio in Trinidad, and later BBC radio, during and after the war years. She helped the war effort by raising money and making care packages. She is truly part of the Windrush generation (as it has come to be known for the post war arrival of people from the Caribbean to help rebuild the UK). She was one of the few women on board the ship HMT Empire Windrush in 1948.

Lena Horne and Tuskegee Airmen © National Congress
Famed American entertainer Lena Horne was a singer, actress and civil rights campaigner during and after World War Two. She was known to sing at the rear of a theater for black service personnel, because the US allowed white German soldiers to sit in the front row of the theaters. Lena is well known for her movie and song entitled Stormy Weather.
